The three sacred mountains of Dewa in northern Japan have been a place of worship for hundreds of years. They are understood as a spiritual matrix and form a narrative of present, past and future (Hagurosan>present, Gassan>past, Yudonosan>future) which is experienced during the ritual ascent. Therefore, it is also a journey of life, death and rebirth in a spiritual sense. The Yamabushi (mountain ascetics) undertake this journey several times a year in search of the connection between the natural and the spiritual world.
This track is a tribute to my own journey to these three mountains and reflects in a musical way the stages of transformation while walking through this wonderful landscape.
